about the artist

After 30 years as an Art and Creative Director for two major advertising agencies, Dan DeRyckere retired to devote his time to Fine Art Painting and Photography. His paintings of landscapes, objects and people are rooted in the physical reality he confronts, frozen at a particular point

in time. The graphic nature of Dan’s woodcuts of the natural world are an extension of his fine art and graphic design training. DeRyckere depicts his subject matter as he finds it, while at the same time selectively editing reality and illuminating it so that his paintings, woodcuts and photography transcend realism while leading the viewer into a deeper experience. Education: in the Fine Art Painting program at the Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, Michigan, -- advanced study in Graphic Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, -- in Photography with six months of private study with Ansel Adams in Carmel-by-the-Sea and Yosemite National Park, California. Dan’s work has won numerous awards like: Cannes Golden Lion -- Clio Award -- Caddy Award -- The One Show Award -- New York Festivals Award -- Communication Arts Graphic Design Award -- International Automotive Advertising Award – Graphis Award -- Design Competition Winner for the official 1995 Detroit Grand Prix Poster -- Purchase Award, the Huntington-Hartford Foundation, Pacific Palisades, CA -- Purchase Award, Drawings USA, New York, NY -- Purchase Award, Kirk-in-the-Hills Juried Show, Bloomfield, MI
